Publication Ethics

The Journal of Technology Management and Information Systems (JMS) is a SINTA 5-accredited scholarly journal dedicated to disseminating, advancing, and facilitating research in the fields of information technology and information systems. This publication ethics statement outlines the ethical standards and responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including the publisher, Editor-in-Chief, editors, reviewers, authors, and website administrators. These guidelines are adapted from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Regulation No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.

The journal upholds three fundamental principles of publication ethics:

  1. Neutrality – ensuring that editorial decisions and publication management are free from conflicts of interest
  2. Fairness – recognizing and assigning authorship only to individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions
  3. Integrity – preventing all forms of scientific misconduct, including duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief 

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for : 

  1. Determining the journal’s title, scope, publication frequency, and accreditation requirements.
  2. Appointing and managing members of the editorial board.
  3. Defining professional relationships among the publisher, editors, reviewers, and other stakeholders.
  4. Maintaining confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and information related to authors, editors, and reviewers.
  5. Ensuring compliance with intellectual property rights regulations, particularly copyright policies.
  6. Establishing, reviewing, and communicating journal policies to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.
  7. Developing ethical guidelines and codes of conduct for editors and reviewers.
  8. Ensuring the regular and timely publication of the journal.
  9. Securing sustainable funding and resources for journal operations.
  10. Establishing academic collaborations and promoting the journal.
  11. Continuously improving the quality and reputation of the journal.
  12. Managing legal and regulatory requirements related to journal publication.

Responsibilities of Editors 

Editors are responsible for:

  1. Providing constructive feedback to authors to improve the clarity, quality, and scholarly value of manuscripts.
  2. Ensuring that manuscripts comply with the journal’s language and formatting standards.
  3. Promoting continuous improvement in publication quality.
  4. Upholding objectivity and academic freedom in editorial decision-making.
  5. Issuing corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.
  6. Ensuring that published content does not contain discriminatory, defamatory, or unethical material.
  7. Receiving, reviewing, and responding appropriately to complaints from all parties involved in the publication process.
  8. Supporting initiatives that promote awareness of publication ethics among researchers.
  9. Avoiding personal, institutional, or third-party influences that may compromise editorial objectivity.
  10. Encouraging authors to revise and improve their manuscripts until they meet publication standards.
  11. Preparing manuscript layouts in accordance with the journal template and publication requirements.
  12. Assisting the Editor-in-Chief in the final review of accepted manuscripts, particularly regarding language quality, formatting, and layout consistency.

Responsibilities of Reviewers 

Reviewers are responsible for:

  1. Providing objective, constructive, and unbiased evaluations of submitted manuscripts.
  2. Assessing the scientific quality, originality, significance, and contribution of manuscripts to their respective fields.
  3. Determining whether manuscripts are clearly written, sufficiently complete, and relevant to the journal’s scope.
  4. Refraining from making personal criticisms of authors.
  5. Maintaining the confidentiality of all manuscripts and associated information.
  6. Avoiding the disclosure or discussion of manuscript contents with unauthorized individuals.

Responsibilities of Authors 

Authors are responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original works and accurately represent their research findings.
  2. Confirming that manuscripts are not under review by another journal and have not been submitted simultaneously elsewhere.
  3. Taking responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and authenticity of their work throughout the submission, review, and publication processes.
  4. Properly acknowledging the contributions of all co-authors and relevant sources.
  5. Cooperating with editors and reviewers during the peer-review and revision processes.

Responsibilities of Website Administrators 

Website Administrators are responsible for managing and maintaining the journal’s online platform. Their duties include:

  1. Setting up and maintaining the journal website.
  2. Configuring system settings and managing user accounts.
  3. Registering editors, reviewers, and authors within the journal management system.
  4. Managing journal features and technical functionalities.
  5. Monitoring and generating statistical reports related to journal performance and usage.
  6. Ensuring the security, accessibility, and reliability of the journal website.
